Aggies Get Pranked, Not Like That's Hard or Something...
Someone put up the below billboard in Gainsville, FL, the home of the Texas A&M's opponent on the gridiron this weekend the Florida Gators:
Of course the Aggies are saying they didn't buy the billboard. This reminds me of the time that a UT student stole A&M's mascot Reveille in the 1990's as prank. Maybe a Longhorn bought the above billboard just to mess with the Aggies...

Yeah, I Got Olympic Fever
That's why I'm watching the bronze medal match in archery and waiting for USA vs. Italy in archery coming up here in a second. Yup, that's right, I'm completely enthralled by archery.

Guess I Called That One Wrong
I really thought OKC would win it all. Guess I was wrong. Oh well.
But, thanks to the Heat winning we got to see Cuban take Skip Bayless down a notch or two or 53.
Alternate lead in to this clip:
annual salary of a sports blowhard talking head: way more than the average American makes.
approximate net worth of Mark Cuban: 2.3 billion USD.
watching Cubes verbally kick Bayless in the jimmy: priceless

Does David Stern and the NBA Think We Are Idiots?
I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm a Spurs fan. If anything I should be pulling against OKC. But, game 3 was tough to watch. I'm into lists now I guess (see my post regarding the movie Prometheus for another recent list). Here's what I took away from game 3 that makes me wonder if the NBA thinks their fans are stupid:
1. How does Kevin Durant have 5 fouls at the end of the game and 4 fouls in the 3rd quarter - he's not exactly known for his aggressive D is he?
2. Hardin and Collison end the game with 4 fouls each.
3. LaBron James had 1 foul in the game.
4. Joey Crawford was a referee.
5. The Heat shot 11 more free throws than OKC.
6. OKC shot 43% from the field, not too good right?
7. But the Heat shot a miserable 39% from the field.
8. Oh but the Heat shot 89% from the free throw line, 31-35.
9. That's right, 31 points from the charity stripe for the Heat, that should sound familiar to Dallas Mavericks fans from '06.
10. Only the Heat's big 3 were in double digits, and Bosh barely with 10 points but, guess what, they still won, I wonder how? See numbers 8 & 9 for the answer.
All that said, OKC only shot 22% from behind the three-point line and lost 91-85. The Heat are up 2-1 in the series meaning OKC really needs to win the next game (no, it's not a "must-win" game, a "must-win" game only occurs when, if a team loses, their season is over, talk to the Boston Red Sox from 2004). Essentially, if OKC gets even close to a fair shake from the refs and if they can shoot a half decent percentage from the field/three point land I still think OKC wins the series in 6.

If Giants Intended to Injure San Fran Player, = Criminal Act(s)?
If a group of people planned ahead of time to try to injure another person and succeeded in doing so and/or think they succeeded in injuring him, were their actions criminal? I would think people planning and then attempting to injure another person is criminal. What if they're playing football? In the NFL? Should that matter? Not to get too legalese-ee regarding this topic but, look up mens rea.
Reports are that New York football Giants players may have intended to injure San Francisco 49'er returner Kyle Williams. Giants players appear to admit that they knew he had a history of concussions and tried to knock him out of the game or concuss him. In other words, with malice aforethought, they tried to and succeeded in injuring him, or at the very least they think they did. One Giants player even brags that after one early hit on Williams, the San Fran returner looked "dazed." Plus, if coaches encouraged and/or instructed Giants players to try to purposefully injure San Fran's Williams, would that not constitute a conspiracy to injure another person?
In other words, besides being beyond dirty players/coaches for all but admitting they were trying to injure a fellow NFL player, is what the NY Giants players did (try to/actually injure Williams) criminal? Of course now, maybe realizing how damning their quotes were after the game, those same Giants now deny they were trying to injure Williams. But, speaking of the Giants' quotes, take a look at them.
Hockey players have been charged with crimes for their on ice, intentional acts that resulted in injury to another player. Why should NFL players' actions not be examined in the same manner? Did Giants players intend to injure another player? If the answer is "yes," why should they not have to answer for their intentional, and potentially criminal actions?

Maybe the USA Soccer Team Wasn't That Good
Signs that Team USA was maybe not so good:
1. Prior to the game against us Ghana had scored 2 goals all World Cup, both on penalty kicks; they scored two goals against us.
2. How many goals in the first 0-20 minutes are we going to give up?
3. Other teams seem to have "scorers". And by that I mean players that just seem to bury the ball in the back of the net when they have a good chance; how many great chances did the USA waste? With at-em balls (right at the goalie) or just wild misses?
4. We tie England on a fluke shot on goal that hit their golie square on. England then gets their lunch handed to them 4-1 by the Germans. Maybe that tie against England wasn't that great after all.
5. In the elimination game against Ghana the coach made an early first half substitution, all but admitting that the USA coach started the wrong guy. Plus, after a half time formation adjustment the USA played in the Ghana end all second half. As opposed to the first half, where the Ghana team was playing in the USA defensive end even though Ghana was in a supposed defensive formation.

Spurs vs. Phoenix (Texas vs. Arizona)
How can a city and state get it so right (San Antonio, Texas) and one city and state get it so, so wrong (Phoenix, Arizona).
On so many levels.
Number of Presidents, Texas - 2 (I only count native born Texans, which are LBJ and Dwight D. Eisenhower, not the Yankees, H.W. Bush and W. Bush); AZ - 0.
Number of NBA championships, San Antonio, TX - 4; Houston, TX - 2; Phoenix AZ - 0.
Number of laws offensive to Hispanics (keep in mind that each state has at a minimum about a 30% Hispanic population): Texas - 0; AZ - 1.
Way to go AZ (sarcasm intended here). And way to go Texas (sarcasm not intended here). Seriously, for all the different ways the GOP have tried to screw up Texas at least the Texan GOP'ers haven't decided to offend one of the largest voting blocks in Texas. Of course, if Texas State Rep. Donna Riddle has anything to say about it we'll have a similar, intolerant law passed in Texas. For lots of different reasons I'd like to see Gov. Rick Perry address this.
Needless to say the immigration issue is a serious one. But, to sports-minded people like me, the Spurs/Suns series is a big deal, albeit a much, much more minor deal than the immigration issue. But, what a great coincidence - TX vs AZ. Politics meets sports yet again. I wonder if Manu Ginobli or Tony Parker will make sure to carry their visas everywhere they go in AZ in case they're asked for proof of citizenship (yes, I know the law's not effect now). Tim Duncan was born in the Virgin Islands. What does that make him? And how will Eva Longoria "prove" that she's actually an American citizen? All the Spurs, and their entourage, should, maybe, out of protest, wear their birth certificates, ID's, passports and visas around their necks to show and prove and protest their right to be in these, the United States of America.
Oh, by the way, which was one of the last states to aknowledge that Martin Luther King, Jr. deservered a holiday for his contribution to us? Oh, that's right, it was the state that keeps on discriminating in the post civil rights movement era, a state called AZ. Way to go AZ. Way to keep the trend going.
But, as usual I digress, AZ will play TX. The Suns will play the Spurs. Phoenix vs. San Antonio. Who do you think has got it right?

Why the UT Mens' Basketball Team Lost
I feel my bad fandom regarding the mens' Texas Longhorns basketball team contributed to their early exit from the Big 12 tournament. Plus, they didn't score as many points as their opponent. Come to think of it, the points thing probably had more to do with them losing then my fan apathy. They're just not playing as well as they were early in the year and Baylor actually has a pretty darn good team.
To compare and contrast, I even made a point to wear my lucky UT "Hawaiian-style" shirt to the football Big 12 Championship this year. I/we/they needed every thread of that shirt to pull out the win. Although, I did wear the same shirt while watching the National Championship on TV and they didn't win. But, I've determined that the shirt is fine, it's just that I wasn't watching the National Championship game in person.

Firing Leach Benefits...
In case you didn't hear, Texas Tech's coach Mike Leach was fired for allegedly mistreating one of his concussed players, one Adam James son of ESPN analyst Craig James, who reportedly showed up to practice wearing sunglasses.
From blogger Deceptive Speed of DeceptiveSpeed.blogspot.com is the hilarious, not-based-in-fact-whatsoever following:
My favorite part is the probable dialogue of how this whole thing went down:
Leach: "James! D@mm!t, James! What the f#%k are those sunglasses?"
James (with big sh!t-eating surfer boy f#$k you grin): "Y'ar matey, doctor's orders! Got a concussion so I'm sensitive to light."
Leach: "Light? Well, g#ddam!t, you're right. Get the f@#k in the equipment shed and turn out the lights so your precious f@#king head doesn't get more f@#ked up."
James: "Uh, what?"
Leach: "Get. The. F@#k. In. The. God. D@mn. Shed. Son."
and scene.

Now, for some reason, I gotta vent.
I really don't have a dog in this fight, I'm a Longhorn for Bevo's sake. But, given everything I've read about the situation this sounds like the straw that was used as an excuse for Texas Tech Athletic Director Gerald Myers to fire a coach he didn't like. And the termination letter said he was fired for cause. So a coach can't instruct an injured/concussed player to stay in an cool/air conditioned dark room? Furthermore, it has been reported that an apology by Leach to the James family would have avoided Leach's suspension. Mike Leach, with all his pirate sutff, made casually following Tech football fun. Plus, Tech football was actually relevant. I heard a caller on the Ticket say that Craig James essentially helped inflict another death penalty on another program.
The biggest beneficiary in this whole mess is Texas A&M.
For some reason now I really want to see Mich St. stomp Tech. What do the vast majority of Tech students and alumni want to see happen in that game? And who exactly is going to fill that brand new stadium that Leach's program funded and built?
Lastly, here are some emails regarding the player and Leach from ex-Tech players and coaches.

Some NPTN's*
non-political thoughts now*
OK, if this was a planned, trick play then the offensive coordinator needs to be talked to. And what type of trick play was it supposed to be? A trick to make the QB look as uncoordinated as possible while at the same time throwing a jump ball back across the field of play?
Is the below what I think it is? Is that a freakin' porta potty on the sideline?
man, I wish I hadn't had all that Mexican food right before kick-off
this doesn't have a lock on it, watch the door and make sure no one comes in while I'm handling up on business in here
OK, OK, a whole bunch of beer and cabbage last night was NOT a good idea.
and lastly, I'm sure some of you have seen this but, here's "the drunkest guy ever."
I would be that this guy was on something other than just booze. And more importantly, how did he get to the convenience store?
a) he walked there (I think not, he would have fallen down 10 feet out the door on a sidewalk and never made it to the store, b) he drove there (again I think not, he can't even sit down on the floor, I don't see him operating a motor vehicle without a tragic accident occurring), or c) the most likely way he got to the store, some friends drove him, saw the state he was in, decided to have some with him and said, "hey buddy, do us a solid and pick us up some beer in there." Then, his friends laughed as he went in while they watched from outside.
