Long Story: OK, I swear this is not change just for change's sake. It has literally been grating on my nerves that my blog/site is called Political Thoughts Now - PTN but, not all the stuff I post there is related to politics. I mean I've posted videos about "Chad Vader", cartoons about Tiger Woods, written about Avatar, and just look at the last cartoon I posted about Conan vs. Leno below. Don't get me wrong, I'll still write, cartoon and generally post about politics. Heck, I'll probably post about politics more than anything else. But, it felt unstable to have a site/blog called Political Thoughts Now when all the content was not related to politics.
So this is my solution, I'll be writing/cartooning/blogging/posting here at AfterThoughtsNow.com from now on. Everything that was at PTN will now be here at ATN (including archived stuff from any old sites/blogs I used to have such as Our Pets from OurPetsComicStrip.com and Episode from fyvpblog.com). Sorry for any confusion that this may cause. Fyi, this won't affect the twitter feed. Join Twitter (If You Haven't Already) Follow Drew Carey and "Make Him" Donate 1 Million Dollars
As explained on CNN, Drew Carey has pledged to donate one million dollars to LiveStrong(Lance Armstrong's cancer foundation) if he reaches one million twitter followers by Dec. 31. How and why did he decide to do that?
Drew Olanoff, who has cancer, has the twitter handle "twitter.com/drew" and put it up for auction to raise money for LiveStrong. Drew Carey caught wind of it and decided to make his bid tied to the number of followers he can get at his twitter handle "twitter.com/DrewFromTV". He's going to make a minimum bid of $100,000.00 and will prorate his bid if he doesn't reach the one million follower mark. For example, 250,000 followers at "DrewFromTV" by Dec. 31 equals a bid/donation of $250,000.00 from Drew Carey to LiveStrong. PTN is already following DrewFromTV, you should too, it doesn't cost anything. If you're not on twitter already what better reason to join and follow someone?

The More Things Change...
...the more I can't let this blog stay the same. Don't worry, you're at the correct site and the site is not moving, it's still here at old politicalthoughtsnow.com. I just decided to change the layout of the blog. Here's another thing,
google "political thoughts now" or "ptn jg", without the quotes and see what comes up...Ha!
And thanks to the good folks at OurBloggerTemplates.com. The new template for PTN was absolutely gratis, easy to use(even for a non-computer guys like me) and easy to customize.
Please, let me know what you think...seriously... I'm needy... I need feedback...please...no seriously, I need like 4-5 comments to stop the voices...
Side Note: I was thinking that the post (in some form or fashion) directly below/previous to this post could someday become a t-shirt. If only I knew someone that was in the t-shirt biz...oh wait...maybe I do...
Side Side Note: The advertising has been an issue for me. As far as I see it, google/blogger is letting me put up this blog essentially for free. And there's a free speech/advertising thing I will not begin to get into, albeit to say, I'm OK with it, you got money and want to spend it advertising here, OK. Needless to say, if I can try to re-coup some scratch for the domain cost from the ads so be it. Fundamentally though, this is for sh!ts & giggles.
And, it is hilarious to see some of the ads that their bots put up here.

- FYI: I'm Still Figuring This Thing Out
After much thought I am again going to attempt to consolidate all the stuff I write/cartoon/post in one place. This time it's going to be right here at PTN. It felt a little unstable for me to have all these different sites especially when I was the only one doing the writing/drawing. Stuff that would have been posted on OurPetsComicStrip.com and fyvpblog.com will be posted here and I've uploaded past posts from those sites here at PTN. I didn't post on those sites very often anway. So, keep in mind that there will be the occasional non-political cartoon, video and/or post. And those posts will likely involve cartoons about our pets, other random, non-political cartoons, stuff about sci-fi/comic books and things that generally make me smile/laugh. But, generally, and more often than not, the posts here will in some form or fashion relate to politics.
Feedback is always appreciated. Do you think this a good idea? Bad? Please let me know by emailing me at jg@politicalthoughtsnow.com.
Lastly, www.TheTexasRangersBlog.com will continue as an independent, separate site because I'm not the only one who writes on it.

- stray musings
The below is an assortment of old ideas that were maybe going to be a cartoon or it's own post and may still be. But, I was inspired to just throw my stray musings up below in a post after reading a great (and funnier) list a good friend forwarded me. Here you go:
- Do employers know that just because they blocked YouTube does not mean that Hulu.com is blocked?
- I am seriously, deeply conflicted during fantasy football drafts and seasons, to the point where I won't draft many players in the same division as my home team or start players playing against my home team. OK, I will start them if I still have a mathematical chance to win the fantasy football league. Money is money.
- I understand that some pregnancies are difficult but, when the full term, by-the-book, no complications birth of a baby occurs is the baby really a "miracle"? Did an angel visit the mother and impregnate her? Did the baby part a sea or any other body of water? Maybe to those in olden' times a baby's birth was considered a "miracle". Don't get me wrong having a baby is great. I just don't like it when the word "miracle" is thrown around. It's called reproductive biology. Open a book.
- Sports athletes, it seems like it's usually football players, talk about being "warriors" or "soldiers" or "going to war" or "doing battle" or "being in the trenches". I know Kellen Winslow got in trouble for it a couple of years ago but, I swear they still do it. They do know that USA service people, actual real soldiers, real warriors, are abroad actually doing battle, at war, right? As for being "in the trenches" I assume that's a reference to WW1 trench warfare. Does that mean football players have explosives lobbed into their trenches? Do football players have to eat, sleep, fight, use the restroom and even live near corpses of friends for days or weeks on end in their trenches? So note to football player, I'd estimate that our military service people die at a greater clip than NFL players. And they're not paid ridiculous amounts of money for it. So football player, less talkie talkie, more touchdowns.
- Why do we use the initials "rsvp" for invitations? You know that those initials stand for a phrase in French that means "please reply" or some such? I don't know or speak French. When else do you use a phrase in another language to respond to something? When someone says "thank you" to me my response from now on will be, "viva la revolucion".
- Some people say I'm a "back seat driver". No, I'm not, I'm not driving at all. I'm actually a "terrified passenger" when most other people drive because the way most people drive freaks me the hell out.
- Sometimes people say, "we treat our pets like they're our children". Do they really? Do they:
set up a college fund for Spot?
tell their pet to stop crying or they'll give them something to really cry about?
force their pet to stay at the dinner table until their plate is empty?
force their pet to take lessons on violin when the pet really wants to take piano lessons?
tell their pet that if they pee the bed again they'll have to sleep in the back yard.
- People should only say that they're "starving" if it's been at least multiple days since they ate. If you missed breakfast that really doesn't count. That'd be like saying "I'm a master carpenter" because you put something together from IKEA. Don't exaggerate. It insults those that are starving and master carpenters.
- I like french fries and I like mayonnaise. Don't judge me for dipping the former in the latter.
- I'm not saying it's as bad as Bernie Madoff but, explain to me again why it's not a rip off to pay so much for bottled water?
- Why do we use the phrase "politically correct". I think most of the time it's just being considerate of the feelings of others. Or just not being a blatant bigot, misogynist or a person who makes fun of the disabled.
- Facebooking while intoxicated is the new drunk dialing.
- The term "spam email" is an insult to the deliciousness that is the canned meat product Spam.
- They say you're not supposed to talk about money, politics or religion in polite company. Can we all agree to add the weather to that too? Of course then you'd have nothing to talk about. And I don't consider myself polite.
- Why do we always cheer for the underdog? I don't necessarily cheer for the underdog as much as I cheer against the favorite so that those that always have things go their way have a taste of the losing and misery we all ingest regularly.
- Watching over and over the movie "A Cry in the Dark", in which Meryl Streep plays an Australian mother who says, "a dingo stole my baby," is my own way of getting back at all the Australian actors for taking all the movie roles with American accents from American actors.
- Is Brett Farve going to regale his younger teammates with stories about cassette tapes and black and white TV?

- New Local News Website Launched
DallasSouthNews.org is up and running. It's a non-profit site that focuses on a myriad of things local, state and national. It pays particular attention to issues relevant to South Dallas, as you may have been able to infer by the title of the site and web address' url.
Yours truly has been asked to contribute to DallasSouthNews.org. Of course, I will still post first here on PTN. And, don't worry, I'll still post whatever I want, when I want here on PTN. It'll be up to those at DallasSouthNews.org to decide what content they choose to use from here at PTN.

Why I Put Up This Blog
UPDATE CIRCA NOVEMBER 2021
As you can tell by the date of the posts it's been sometime since I've posted here or on the other blogs (OurPets & TheTexasRangersBlog) but I've kept them online because I'm weird like that. But now my good friend Charles and I are doing a podcast about comic books called, strangely enough, Jav & Charles Talk Comics. He suggests a comic book story/arc for me to read and vice versa. I usually suggest something I remember fondly from the 80's that maybe or maybe not doesn't hold up so well. He usually suggests something I haven't read that's much more recent and much better. And then we talk about it. We have fun doing the podcast and I hope if you give it a listen you enjoy it too.

Short version: AfterThoughts Now - ATN is where I post my thoughts on a wide variety of topics (including, but, not limited to entertainment, pop culture stuff, sports, science, scifi, comic books, politics and other miscellaneous things) in the form of original political cartoons, non-political original cartoons / webcomics and other stuff I write, draw or find that makes me laugh/smile and/or I think is interesting. I've lessened the political stuff on ATN recently because I just got tired-head from the same old, same old. I think that a little levity regarding even serious subjects is a good thing. If you don't think it's funny I fart in your general direction. If you like what you see/read here please, pass it along to others that you think might enjoy it.Long version: Why the blog (short for "web log"- I seriously didn't know that's what it stood for)? I used to email different folks here and there about things related to politics. I followed the 2008 presidential election from the primaries on pretty obsessively. And I likely follow politics more closely than most as it is. So I finally just put up a blog called PoliticalThoughtsNow.com about politics instead of bothering folks with my emails. For example, my first blog post ever (although I did have a short lived site before - jgcomicstrips.com, now defunct) was essentially an email I sent an old college roommate around the time of the second presidential election debate in 2008. FYI, I don't like pinning myself down as to a particular political persuasion. For example, I'm not a registered member of any party. That said, generally (and I dislike generalizing) I am left-of-center to liberal on most issues.
I also used to forward folks non-political stuff I'd find that would make me smile or laugh and I'm sure that at least some were annoyed by the frequency at which I'd forward them stuff and were too nice to tell me to quit. So, I figured I'd use a blog/website called ForYourViewingPleasureByJG.com / fyvpblog.com and post links and other things here that made me smile/laugh as the occassional break from politics. And if my friends want to check it out they can. Now I don't send them as many emails. I went ahead and back dated (cheating? maybe, but it goes back, in part, to the now defunct jgcomicstrips.com site) some of the posts to when I first saw the subject of the post or when I drew/wrote the cartoon (yes, I actually save stuff that makes me laugh, I have a special email folder for it).
I also write/draw some non-political cartoons and comic strips, like Our Pets and Episode. The characters from Our Pets and Episode may appear here in the future. Plus, there'll be the one-off solo cartoon every once in a while. In fact, I have a blog just for the Our Pets comic strip called OurPetsComicStrip.com. I didn't write/cartoon/post at the fyvp.com or OurPetsComicStrip.com sites often and I decided it was silly that I had 3 sites. At first I consolidated everything at PoliticalThoughtsNow.com but, not all the content was related to politics. So I moved and consolidated everything from PoliticalThoughtsNow.com, fyvpblog.com and OurPetsComicStrip.com here at ATN.
Our Pets is a comic strip in blog format (webcomic) about our pets, our 2 cats, Primo and Cindy, and our 2 dogs, Gilda and Gene.
Episode is an original, goofy comic strip about a scientist's first contact with some ET's.
If there's something that makes you laugh and want me to post it, let me know.
I write and draw (poorly - I am in no way a trained artist/cartoonist/illustrator) the cartoons that appear in this blog unless otherwise noted. I've always been a fan of the political cartoon and comic strip.
Also, I, along with some friends, blog about the Texas Rangers baseball team at TheTexasRangersBlog.com.
So basically, ATN is a blog where I share my thoughts through cartoons and stuff I write as well as posting things that I find funny.

I went ahead and back dated some of the posts to when I first saw the subject of the post (yes, I actually save stuff that makes me laugh, I have a special email folder for it). I also will throw in some cartoons and comic strips by me plus some sports stuff. I have 2 original comic strips that appear here ("Our Pets" and "Episode"). If there's something that makes you laugh and want me to post it, let me know. By the way, as you can tell I'm not a trained artist so please, go easy on my cartooning.
"Our Pets" still has it's own blog/site (www.ourpetsthecomicstrip.com), plus I started another blog about the Texas Rangers that's no longer active. That's all been consolidated here. In the interest of full disclosure I do have another blog, politicalthougthsnow.com, that's just about politics.
So basically, FYVP is where I post stuff that makes me laugh (if you don't think its funny I fart in your general direction) as well as my thoughts on entertainment (especially sci fi/comic book stuff and music stuff) and some of my cartoons.
