What I Learned From Watching Hunger Games:

They have a high-speed light rail system and I cannot take a train to Cowboys stadium or the Ballpark in Arlington from Dallas.  To be clear, in a post-apocalyptic dystopian future where the presumably totalitarian government forces its twelve districts to sacrifice 2 kids each year in a organized fight to the death, they have a mass transit system that puts DFW's to shame.  Ouch.

Mayor Cluck: Latino Officials, "Bunch of Mexicans"

Arlington, Texas mayor Robert Cluck allegedly referred to a gathering of elected and appointed Latino officials as, "a bunch of Mexicans."

Where to start?  Not all Latino or hispanic persons living in the United States are "Mexican."  Guess what Mayor Cluck, there are countries other than Mexico south of the United States.  Moreover, a lot of hispanics in America were actually born here, especially elected and appointed politicians.  They are United States citizens.  They are American.

Look at it another way.  There are those with ancestry from other countries such as Ireland or other continents like Africa.  I wonder what would Mayor Cluck would call a gathering of African American political types or a group of Irish Americans?

Believe It Or Not It's Election Day...

...kind of, sort of, well it is but, it's just not nearly as sexy as say the last time we had the polls open last November. There are some Texas contitutional amendments up for consideration and, if you live in Dallas, Texas like me, some Dallas Independent School District board seats up for election, namely seats 1, 3 and 9.

I'll be honest, I've been busy and dropped the ball on getting on top of the issues related to the constitutional amendments or informing myself about the candidates for the school board seats. However, below are some helpful links:

Want to know where to vote (in Dallas County)? Click here.

Also, League of Womens Voters of Dallas has a site with links to pages related to today's election/vote.

The Dallas Morning News, of course, weighed in on the constitutional amendments up for consideration as well as the DISD District Seats up for grabs.

And Pegasus News went down the amendments also.

Happy voting!

Just Kidding

Or, Alternate Title: "Susan Smith tried it, Todd just thought she could pull it off.
(Ashley Todd, left; Susan Smith, right)

So, the McCain volunteer, Ashley Todd, in Pennsylvania who claimed that an African-American male mugged her and upon seeing a McCain bumper sticker on her car proceeded to carve a "B" on her face has admitted it was all hoax. Not the funny kind. This is the, "sad and reflective of how far we still have to go," kind of hoax.

I'm not the first to write this but it's sadly reminiscent of the Susan Smith case. Smith accused an African-American male of kidnapping her kids. It turned out Smith made the whole think up and she actually killed her own children. Of course the hoax is not as extreme in that Todd was not trying to cover up the crime of murder. But, Todd was potentially trying to influence a presidential election by making false, racially based allegations. It is still sad.

All joking aside, especially in this context, this young women is apparently troubled. To what extent is yet to be determined. That said, this writer feels badly that this young lady, for whatever reason, has come to this point. I hope she receives the care she needs.

A Racist Piece of Mail

The below racist mailer was actually sent to the membership of a Republican women's club in San Bernardino County, California and was intended as an attempt at humor, according to the club's president. Their attempt at humor failed miserably. The organization responsible is Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated, their president is Diane Fedele.

Their local website is/was: http://www.crfw.org/ ; contact email: ChaffeyCommunityRWF@cfrw.org

Their website was down or not active as of the time of this post. I have not attempted to send them an email.

The umbrella organization that is over the local organization responsible is the California Federation of Republican Women - Southern Division - website: http://www.cfrwsoutherndivision.org/ ; it was working as of the time of this post. There is a "contact us" tab on the left side. Maybe the umbrella organization should hold those responsible accountable and kick them out of their organization.

The president of the club, Diane Fedele, said, "If I was racist, I would have looked at it through racist eyes," she said. "I am not racist, which is why it probably didn't register." How many racists do you know of that think and acknowledge that they are, in fact, racist? This is just a reminder that as far as we have come as a nation, we still have further to go. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-foodstamps17-2008oct17,0,2209911.story

Side Note: As if we need any more evidence of some people's ignorance and racism look at these if you have the stomach for it. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of good people with good, informed, intelligent and articulate reasons to vote for McCain rather than Obama. Most of these people aren't:

The "Great Schlep"

This great article from CNN's Patrick Oppman demonstrates the misinformation that Obama is combating. Remember the older lady at the McCain rally who said that Obama was an, "Arab" (Post #5, this blog)? I guessed that she may have received her information about Obama from smear, chain emails. Given what the below article relates, I may not be too far off the mark about where some people are getting their information, namely, smear, chain, patently false emails.

Meanwhile the "Great Schlep" tries to get out the Jewish vote in favor of Obama in Florida.
