Avatar = SciFi Version of Dances With Wolves on Special Effects Steroids

Yeah, this is one of those NPTN's (Non-Political Thoughts Now).

As you may or may not know I'm generally a huge scifi fan. I love Star War and Star Trek.

However, I've seen many an extended trailer for the new James Cameron movie Avatar, so many and often I feel like I've seen most of the movie. As far as I can tell from the super-long commercials that play during seemingly every commercial break the plot appears to be about a soldier "going native" and falling in love with one of the natives. Then, said soldier fights with the natives against his former fellow soldiers. This time the natives are extra-terrestrials on another world instead of Native Americans.

I think I've seen this movie before when it was called Dances With Wolves. I'll pass on the special effects. Of course, I could be wrong. I'll have to wait and see, kinda. I say, "kinda," because the previews I've seen have not prompted me to even think about going to see Avatar. And regardless, I'll never forgive James Cameron for Titanic.
